According to Pat Forde of Yahoo Sports, the Florida Gators have decided to move on from Chip Kelly in their search for a new head football coach.
Forde indicates that Florida is expected to turn it’s attention to Central Florida’s Scott Frost. Frost took over a UCF team that was 0-12 and ranked dead last in the FBS in scoring offense. He currently has his offense ranked #1 and has turned sophomore QB Mackenzie Milton into a dark horse Heisman candidate.
On Sunday, Florida officials, including Athletic Director Scott Stricklin and UF President Dr. Kent Fuchs, flew to New Hampshire to present Kelly a contract which was signed according to Darren Heitner of the Sports Agent’s Blog. Heitner also iterated that Kelly had an ‘escape clause’ within a certain timeframe.
Also on Sunday, the UCLA Bruins fired head coach Jim Mora, and according to multiple sources including ESPN and CBS Sports, made an all-out effort toward Kelly. CBS Sports reported on Tuesday that Kelly was deciding between the two schools.
If Forde is correct, it is entirely possible that Kelly has told Stricklin that he would rather be at UCLA. After all, Chip Kelly’s agent, David Dunn is a UCLA graduate.
